FAQ

How good do I have to ski/board to go heli-skiing?

Heli skiing and heli boarding is not for novices. Ideally, you are a strong intermediate skier/boarder or better, with a sense of adventure. ‘Strong intermediate’ means you can easily ski all the blue runs at your home ski field, and can generally ski the black runs, even if you find them challenging.

Valhalla Heli-Ski has access to a wide range of terrain, from easy rolling slopes for powder first-timers to challenging chutes and steep valleys for the more experienced. Talk with us about your skiing/boarding preferences and we’ll find the perfect terrain for your heli-ski day.

Can my children come heli-ski too?

Yes, intermediate skiers of all ages are welcome to come heli-skiing. If you want to bring your children but they are too young to ski, please be advised that we do not provide childcare.

How much do we ski?

You choose. We have 3 or 5 Summit packages for the day-tours. You can also join our 7 day program where we ski 24 summits.

How do I organise my heli-ski day?

We advise you to book well in advance for your preferred heli-ski date. However, we also recommend that you get in contact with us as soon as you arrive in the area, to check the forecast and allow some flexibility in case of bad weather. Let us know if you are available on alternative dates – the more options we have, the better we’re able to find you the best ski conditions!

How are groups chosen?

The groups are chosen by weight, ability and skiing/snowboarding style preference. We strive to keep groups of friends skiing or riding together if you’re all evenly matched in ability, but there is no guarantee of this unless you book a Private HeliSki tour.

What do I need to bring?

Gear
ski or snowboard boots (no touring boots), outerwear, thermal layers, gloves/mitts, goggles/sunglasses, hat and a helmet – And don’t forget to bring your personal ski or snowboard gear including outerwear and boots, sunscreen and a if needed your medication.

Travel documents
passport and travel medical insurance.

Don’t forget your sense of adventure…..and humour

Do I need powder skis?

Powder skis or all-mountain skis (Wide-Body) are the preferred choice for your heli-ski trip. This type of ski allows you to handle a wide range of snow conditions, easier and with more stability. All of our guides use Wide-Body Ski and they’re perfect for those wanting to go longer and harder. You don’t have to own your own powder skis – if you would like to rent some gear let us know and we put you in touch with our hire equipment retailer.

Can I bring my Snowboard?

No worries. You can bring your own snowboard – Please ensure that you have those extra pieces or (spare-)parts for your board that will come in handy in the event of breakage.

Do you mix skiers with snowboarders?

Yes, we mix groups. If there are problems with ability or the group chemistry your guide will make the necessary changes. We generally think that whether on one plank or two, everyone gets along and enjoys their turns. Since the boarders travel often faster the skiers will go first, which allows snowboarders to spread out and hit the overdrive.

Is it difficult to operate the Avalanche transceiver

All our guests will be trained on how to use our safety equipment. This includes the Avalanche-Transceiver.

Can I bring my own avalanche safety gear?

All guests will be provided with and trained in the use of our safety equipment. This includes a transceiver, probe, shovel and handheld radio. You are welcome to bring you own gear, but you will need to ensure that your guide is familiar with it.

Can I bring/use my Go-Pro?

Helmet mounted GoPro’s are OK, but chest mounted cameras are prohibited due to the risk that they might interfere with your avalanche transceiver. No active cellphones or WIFI enabled devices are allowed in the helicopter.

Can I bring my drone?

Drones are huge fun and get great shots BUT – it’s a big NO! Unfortunately drones and helicopters don’t mix well. Please leave them at home.

Can you cater to special dietary needs?

Please let us know of your dietary restrictions during the booking process. To make sure everything is satisfactory let us know at least 14 days prior to travel of any serious dietary restrictions.

How to get do I get to Kittelfjall?
